(Senior) Research Associate, Cellular Immunology, Personalized TCR Discovery Team

Neogene Therapeutics is a pre-clinical stage biotechnology company aiming to change the paradigm of treatment for solid cancers. Our mission is to provide cancer patients with T cell therapies targeting mutated proteins called neo-antigens, which are present on cancer cells as a consequence of DNA mutations. Neogene is developing novel technologies to enable the engineering of ‘designer T cells’ with neo-antigen specificities that display an optimized ability to seek and destroy cancer cells.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our personalized TCR discovery team in Amsterdam as a (Senior) Research Associate. The personalized TCR discovery team is responsible for applying the TCR discovery platform developed by our R&D team for the purpose of isolating neo-antigen specific TCRs from a cancer patient’s tumor biopsy & characterizing these tumor-derived TCRs. This process takes place in our personalized TCR discovery center under the principles of GLP. Following isolation and characterization, neo-antigen specific TCRs are selected for the clinical manufacture of a fully personalized multi-specificity neo-antigen specific TCR engineered T cell therapy product that is used to treat the cancer patient. Reporting to a Senior Scientist in the personalized TCR discovery team, the individual will assume responsibility for performing experiments to isolate and characterize patient-derived neo-antigen specific TCRs for clinical use.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing TCR isolation and characterization studies under the supervision of senior research staff according to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and defined processes in a manner compliant with standards set out by relevant accredited agencies.
  • Techniques involved include, but are not limited to, density gradient- and magnetic bead-based isolation of human immune cells (T cells, B cells, and other), phenotypic and functional evaluation of immune cells by flow cytometry (surface and intracellular staining, proliferation tracking, cytotoxicity assays) and genetic modification of primary immune cells and cell lines utilizing retroviruses and gene editing tools (e.g. CRISPR-Cas9).
  • Accurately documenting experimental results in electronic laboratory journal and document management systems that are in compliance with standards set by appropriate accredited agencies
  • Support the drafting of data reports and presentations to inform the selection of personalized TCRs for clinical use
  • Support the drafting and revising of protocols and SOPs in support of process validation and for regulatory filings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor or Master’s in Biomedical Sciences or a related field. Candidates with relevant experience may be eligible for a position as Senior Research Associate (at the company’s discretion). Industry experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of aseptic cell culture techniques.
  • First-hand experience with multi-color flow cytometry is a strong plus.
  • Preference for candidates with experience of working within a formal quality management system.
  • Experience of working in a cGMP or ISO 13485 production environment is a plus
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to diligently execute experimental protocols
  • Additional training in the area of B and/or T cell culture, genetic manipulation of cells utilizing retroviruses or gene editing tools (e.g. CRISPR-Cas9), molecular biology (next-generation sequencing and vector design/construction) and proficiency with Flow Cytometry Sorters is a plus.
  • Excellent organizational skills, a strong sense of urgency with regards to work duties and the ability to deliver results based on challenging timelines.
  • Comfortable with electronic document management systems and authoring tools.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English and Dutch.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced growing company environment and able to adjust workload based upon changing priorities
  • We are seeking a person who will lead by example and is a self-motivated team player with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in The Netherlands.
