(Senior) Research Associate, Molecular Biology & NGS, Personalized TCR Discovery

Neogene Therapeutics is a pre-clinical stage biotechnology company aiming to change the paradigm of treatment for solid cancers. Our mission is to provide cancer patients with T cell therapies targeting mutated proteins called neo-antigens, which are present on cancer cells as a consequence of DNA mutations. Neogene is developing novel technologies to enable the engineering of ‘designer T cells’ with neo-antigen specificities that display an optimized ability to seek and destroy cancer cells.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with experience in molecular biology and next generation sequencing (NGS) technologies to join our personalized TCR discovery team in Amsterdam as a (Senior) Research Associate. The personalized TCR discovery team is responsible for isolating neo-antigen specific TCRs from a cancer patient’s tumor biopsy & characterizing these tumor derived TCRs. Following isolation and characterization, neo-antigen specific TCRs are selected for the clinical manufacture of a fully personalized multi-specificity neo-antigen specific TCR engineered T cell therapy product that is used to treat the cancer patient.  Reporting to a Senior Scientist in the personalized TCR discovery team, the individual will assume responsibility for performing experiments to isolate patient-derived neo-antigen specific TCRs for clinical use.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing TCR isolation studies under the supervision of senior research staff according to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and defined processes in a manner compliant with standards set out by relevant accredited agencies.
  • Techniques involved include, but are not limited to, DNA/RNA isolation, cDNA synthesis, PCR amplification, NGS-library preparation, operation and maintenance of NGS-equipment, plasmid amplification and preparation and execution of various genotyping assays
  • Accurately documenting experimental results in electronic laboratory journal and document management systems that are in compliance with standards set by appropriate accredited agencies
  • Support the drafting of data reports and presentations to inform the selection of personalized TCRs for clinical use
  • Support the drafting and revising of protocols and SOPs in support of process validation and for regulatory filings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor or Master’s in Biomedical Sciences or a related field. Candidates with relevant experience may be eligible for a position as Senior Research Associate (at the company’s discretion). Industry experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of and first-hand experience with basic molecular biology techniques and NGS technologies is required.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to diligently execute experimental protocols
  • Preference for candidates with experience of working within a formal quality management system.
  • Experience of working in a cGMP or ISO 13485 production environment is a strong plus
  • Excellent organizational skills, a strong sense of urgency with regards to work duties and the ability to deliver results based on challenging timelines.
  • Comfortable with electronic document management systems and authoring tools.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English and Dutch.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced growing company environment and able to adjust workload based upon changing priorities
  • We are seeking a person who will lead by example and is a self-motivated team player with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in The Netherlands.

We offer the opportunity to join a highly dynamic biotech start-up. You can expect a collaborative environment created by a team with deep scientific expertise and an industrial track-record in T cell therapies. We value pro-active team-players who pursue their goals with dedication, endurance and a daring mindset.
