Sourcing & Procurement Associate Director / Senior Manager

Neogene Therapeutics is a pre-clinical stage biotechnology company aiming to change the paradigm of treatment for solid cancers. Our mission is to provide cancer patients with T cell therapies targeting mutated proteins called neo-antigens, which are present on cancer cells as a consequence of DNA mutations. Neogene is developing novel technologies to enable the engineering of ‘designer T cells’ with neo-antigen specificities that display an optimized ability to seek and destroy cancer cells.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual for the role of Sourcing & Procurement Associate Director / Senior Manager, depending on experience.  The individual is responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies that will support the start-up and execution of Neogene’s operations in Santa Monica and Netherlands.  Additionally, the individual will manage the supplier engagement operating model to ensure the agility, quality, reliability, and responsiveness of the supply chain.  This role will work suppliers of materials, equipment, and services to enable Neogene operations.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and implement category and sourcing strategies
  • Lead sourcing activities from initial RFI/RFP to negotiation of contract terms.
  • Assess new suppliers based upon a variety of criteria and negotiate terms and pricing.
  • Partner with business functions and lead cross-functional teams to ensure business requirements are met by suppliers.
  • Support new supplier and material qualification efforts, tech transfer projects, and process improvements
  • Onboard and maintain a diverse, phase appropriate supplier network to support clinical technical operations with scalability in mind
  • Build relationships with critical suppliers and understand supplier operations to achieve alignment on short, mid and long term strategies
  • Create and lead a cross-functional supplier engagement operating model to achieve a deep and mutually beneficial relationship with critical suppliers, leading to reliable supply.
  • Partner with business functions and suppliers to proactively assess and manage supplier/supply related risks, issues, and mitigation plans
  • Partner with business functions and suppliers to drive continuous improvements to costs, quality, lead time, value, and innovation.
  • Understand market and industry conditions to develop optimal sourcing and category strategies.
  • Evaluate segmentation of suppliers to differentiate supplier management approach and sourcing strategies
  • Establish business processes, procedures, and best practices/guidance for sourcing and procurement practices
  • Own and establish key performance indicators to manage performance of suppliers

Requirements:

  • 8+ years with BS/BA or 6+ years with MS/MA or MBA.
  • Direct experience and working knowledge in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry, with functional operations experience such as supply chain, manufacturing, process development/R&D or other function
  • Experience in sourcing, contract negotiations, supplier management, and procurement in one or more of the following areas: facilities and engineering, bioprocessing equipment, manufacturing facility start up, genetic engineering/synthetic biology tools, production supplies such as bags, vials, filters, other consumables, media and excipients, components
  • Organized and attentive to detail
  • Experience managing and developing staff.
  • Able to independently translate overall direction and strategy into functional strategy and work plans.
  • Demonstrates active listening and continuous feedback within team, ability to facilitate problem solving, decision making, and issue resolution
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communicator across organizational levels and functions in this collaborative work environment.
  • Develops solutions with creativity and innovative approaches.
  • Work is performed with virtually no immediate direction.
  • Independently stablish actionable recommendations, strategies, and solutions based on high-level/undefined/changing business requirements
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic, and highly fluid company environment with minimal direction and able to adjust workload based upon changing priorities.
  • 10% travel may be required.
Additional Qualifications
  • Knowledgeable with cGxP as well as regulatory regulations and compliance requirements for cell therapy and pharmaceutical industry
  • Able to express ideas and present information effectively to leadership, within team functions, and to external partners
  • Ability to think critically with demonstrated troubleshooting and analytical skills
  • Contributes or leads the development of complex new concepts, techniques, and standards.
